2016 Educational Seminars for Corporate Governance Evaluation and CSR Reports Start on September 19, 2016

Publish time:2016-09-20

The Taiwan Stock Exchange (TWSE) stated that since the implementation of corporate governance evaluation in 2014, the evaluation results have been highly valued by listed companies, institutional investors, and domestic and international corporate governance related institutions. Furthermore, in order to advocate shareholder activism and strengthen corporate social responsibility (CSR) practices and non-financial information disclosure of listed companies, new measures such as expanding the range of companies subject to electronic voting requirement and CSR report compilation were implemented recently. To facilitate companies’ compliance and enhance their CSR and corporate governance practices, TWSE and Taipei Exchange (TPEx) are jointly hosting five educational seminars in Taipei, Hsinchu, Taichung, and Kaohsiung starting on September 19, 2016.

TWSE emphasized that according to the corporate governance roadmap, the third round of corporate governance evaluation results for all listed companies will be announced in 2017. The educational seminars this time will serve to emphasize the important contents of the third round of corporate governance evaluation, using examples to illustrate the grading criteria of the evaluation indicators. In addition, a representative from Taiwan Depository & Clearing Corporation (TDCC) has been specially invited to share electronic voting practices in accordance with evaluation indicators. Furthermore, disclosure of non-financial information such as ESG reporting has gained substantial international attention. However, Taiwan is still in its initial stage of promotion. To provide listed companies with better understanding of CSR and non-financial information disclosure, these seminars have included international CSR trends and common mistakes in compiling CSR reports in the topics.

Through the educational seminars, TWSE hopes to enhance listed companies’ understating of corporate governance evaluation. In addition, it aims to help companies strengthen corporate governance and implement corporate social responsibilities, thereby raising Taiwan’s overall global positioning and competitiveness in the international capital market. As the content of the upcoming educational seminars matches practical needs, over two thousand people have enrolled for the seminars.
