Taiwan Stock Exchange Invites World Famous Scholars to Lecture on Financial Ethics

In order to promote Taiwan’s corporate governance and financial supervision related concepts and borrow from world experience, the Taiwan Stock Exchange (TWSE), Taiwanese Society of International Law (TSIL), and Taiwan Academy of Banking and Finance (TABF) jointly held the “International Conference on Corporate Governance, Financial Supervision, and Law” on June 26th, 2015. Professor Barry Rider, OBE from Cambridge University was invited to visit Taiwan to lecture on the subject and discuss economic protection and financial system integrity strengthening from the perspective of strategic analysis. Experts from the industry, government, and academia were also invited to discuss how a sound corporate governance mechanism operates during the process of corporate mergers and acquisition, as well as the latest development trend of financial supervision systems around the world.
 
According to the Taiwan Stock Exchange, Professor Barry Rider, OBE, who is currently the Dean of Jesus College, Cambridge University and a former consultant of the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, and the Asian Development Bank, is well reputed internationally in financial crime-related fields. Professor Barry Rider also specializes in insider trading, market abuse, and money laundering prevention and control research. He was invited to Taiwan to engage in exchange with domestic crime prevention agencies.
 
Taiwan Stock Exchange Chairman Lee Sush-der and President Yen Ching-Chang of Taiwanese Society of International Law presided over the two seminars in the afternoon. The first seminar was themed “Sound Corporate Mechanism Accomplishing High-quality Corporate Mergers and Acquisition”, where Professor Wang Chih-Cheng of National Chung Cheng University, Deputy Director Chang Li-Chen of Securities and Futures Bureau, Financial Advisory Commission, R.O.C., Professor Chuang Yung-Cheng of Soochow University, and Attorney Huang Jack J.T., Partner of Jones Day’s Taipei Office were invited to attend. The representatives for the second seminar themed “A Comparative Study of International Financial Supervision Systems” include: Secretary Chief Dr. Hung Szu-Chu of TSIL, Deputy Director Chiu Shu-Chen of Financial Supervisory Commission, R.O.C., Chairman Mark Wei of KGI Bank, and Professor Peng Chin-Lung of National Chengchi University. In addition, Deputy Minister Chen-Huan Wu, Ministry of Justice who had just passed the nomination for becoming an eligible judge was also invited to address the seminar.
 
Through one lecture session and two discussion sessions, this conference was intended to update participants with the latest developments in the international financial market policies, as well as the importance of constructing a sound corporate governance mechanism for stock listed companies in order to promote Taiwan’s corporate governance norms in line with international standards and enhance the overall robustness and integrity of Taiwan’s’ financial markets, thus further shaping corporate governance culture in Taiwan.
