TWSE attended 13th Asian Corporate Governance Association Annual Conference

TWSE attended an International Corporate Governance Conference
 
According to the Taiwan Stock Exchange, the 13th Asian Corporate Governance Association Annual Conference held on November 5th and 6th, 2013, in Seoul. Cheng Tsun, Vice President at the Domestic Listing Department of the TWSE accompanied FSC’s delegates to attend this meeting and engage in discussions and exchange of ideas on challenges in sustainable development and responsible investment among businesses in north Asia. Since 1998, regulators have been educating domestic public companies on the importance of corporate governance. TWSE also places a heavy emphasis on corporate governance issues and works with regulators in the revision of rules and regulations, promotion and education, and the planning and development of information disclosure and evaluation systems. The TWSE will take this opportunity to promote our nation’s achievements in corporate governance and raise our profile in the international arena.

Over the years, the TWSE based on the vision of “circulating securities and prospering the economy ", seeks outstanding companies with strong potential and assists those companies to understand relevant regulations, so that these companies can offer their shares to the public for trading on the TWSE. After companies are listed, the TWSE endeavors to accomplish greater transparency in corporate information and fairer trading mechanisms, so that the general public can invest with greater peace of mind. The TWSE also offers education plans and services to help companies accomplish prudent management and improve corporate governance to create a win-win-win situation for investors, customers, and employees.
 
Since ethical management and the fulfillment of corporate social responsibility have become corporate governance principles and core values recognized worldwide, since 2011, the Taiwan Stock Exchange and GreTai Securities Market have been holding “Ethical Management and Corporate Social Responsibility Conferences for Publicly Traded Companies” with the following goals: aligning ourselves with international development trends, building consensus on ethical management among domestic companies, and promoting corporate social responsibility. The TWSE invites responsible persons of publicly traded companies to share their experiences with ethical management concepts and measures to fulfill corporate social responsibilities. The TWSE also invites responsible persons from all publicly traded companies and representatives from major institutional investors to attend the meeting in hope that corporations can develop prudently, investors can have greater faith in the securities markets, and we can improve the competitiveness of our country’s capital markets.

TWSE establishes a Corporate Governance Center to create actively an international network, and improve our competitiveness in the international arena
 
The Taiwan Stock Exchange has established a Corporate Governance Center with an Advisory Committee, as directed by regulators. The first Advisory Committee was convened on October 25, 2013. The Corporate Governance Center has four subordinate sections, which are: comprehensive planning, secretariat, promotion and education, and guidance and evaluation. These sections coordinate and plan issues related to corporate governance (and corporate social responsibility), such as: the research and drafting of statutes and regulations, special topic research, building up the database, cooperation with media, training for board members, investor relations, investor education, evaluation of information disclosure, evaluation of corporate governance, domestic promotion and implementation, and participation in international activities.
The TWSE has been actively communicating with relevant international institutions on a regular basis, participating in international corporate governance activities, providing the newest laws and regulations, and building a communications network to help promote and demonstrate the development of corporate governance in our country. The goal is to improve image of corporate governance in all aspects in Taiwan. We hope through the participation in this international meeting as foundation, to continue to strive for the vision of circulating securities and prospering the economy, then work together to create a better future.
