The First Round of the “Corporate Governance Evaluation” Is Underway

According to the Taiwan Stock Exchange, the TWSE and GreTai Securities Market, under the project of “2013 Corporate Governance Roadmap” announced by the Financial Supervisory Commission, have finished laying out the instructions and indicators for the first round (2014) of corporate governance evaluation. Furthermore, references were sent out to listed companies on March 31, 2013 so that they could conduct self-evaluations accordingly. The objective of the evaluation system is to stimulate Taiwan’s corporate governance culture, as well as assist investors and managements in understanding companies’ performance in corporate governance. This marks Taiwan’s first official launch of corporate governance evaluations of all listed companies.

The SFI Performs External Assessment on top of Self-evaluations by Listed Companies
The TWSE and the GTSM have commissioned the Securities and Futures Institute (SFI) to perform external assessment this year, while all listed companies shall perform self-evaluation simultaneously. Through the process of self evaluation, companies perform inspections on their own corporate governance and are able to improve upon their deficiencies.  SFI shall complete their task with matching their initial assessments against the results of the self-evaluations.

Evaluation Results to be Announced Next April
For this round of evaluations, the company self-evaluations, the SFI assessments, and the first corporate governance evaluation results are estimated to be completed in January, March, and April, respectively, in 2015. Furthermore, companies that ranked in the top 20% will be published, to distinguish these companies as role models of corporate governance in capital markets.
