Corporate Governance Outreach, Further Strengthening International Links

In addition to cultivate domestic corporate governance, the Taiwan Stock Exchange (TWSE) is also committed to actively “reaching out”. TWSE is able to enhance the global standing of Taiwan's financial market by keeping up with the development trends and actively participating in related organizations and activities.

TWSE states that it has been promoting corporate governance for more than a decade. In order to maintain momentum of reform, the TWSE must keep up with the rest of the world. TWSE has always been in close contact with Asian Corporate Governance Association (ACGA) by sharing innovative information and actively providing recent CG developments of Taiwan. TWSE also joined the Sustainability Working Group (SWG) of the World Federation of Exchanges (WFE) in June 2014 to promote CSR and sustainable development. In addition to conducting conference call with the other 20 exchange members on a monthly basis, the Taiwan Stock Exchange has attended the seminar held on July 23 in Kuala Lumpur to jointly promote the information disclosure of environment, society, and governance issues, including the sustainability information disclosure guidelines for all WFE exchanges before next year.

TWSE-listed companies in specific industries and those reach a certain capital threshold should prepare CSR reports according to G4 Sustainability Reporting Guidelines published by Global Reporting Initiative (GRI). In order to follow the latest development of GRI guidance and fulfill responsibility as a user and global citizen, the TWSE has become a GRI Organizational Stakeholders (OS) on July 15 this year. To date, the GRI has over 600 OS worldwide, of which, only four exchanges (including Brazil, Germany, and Switzerland); therefore, the TWSE has become the first GRI exchange OS in Asia.

TWSE upholds the spirit of assisting, sharing, and strengthening international friendships. In mid-August 2015, TWSE sent representatives to Hanoi Stock Exchange to provide corporate governance educational training in Vietnam and give a speech in a public company seminar. The activity was highly appreciated by the Hanoi Stock Exchange. The Chairman of the Hanoi Stock Exchange and vice-chairman of the State Securities Commission presided over the training course and seminar. TWSE hopes that this international exchange program will serve to enhance the level of corporate governance of listed companies in Vietnam, further bolstering the friendly relations between Taiwan and Vietnam.
