Taipei, March 12 (CNA) Premier Lai Ching-te (賴清德) said Monday that the government will publish its first national report later this month on the implementation of the United Nations Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC) after the Legislative Yuan enacted the Implementation Act of UNCAC in 2015.

Taiwan enacted the domestic legislation with the aim of bringing the country's legal framework into line with international norms. The report will serve as an important milestone in efforts to curb corruption in Taiwan, Lai said in a post on his Facebook page.

He said that since the new government took office in May 2016, it has taken a slew of measures to push for cleaner politics.

In terms of the legal system, the Legislative Yuan approved amendments to the Money Laundering Control Act in December 2016 and offered a six-month period for preparation of their implementation, according to Lai.

The Executive Yuan has also introduced draft amendments to the Company Act, a draft version of the act governing incorporated foundations, and a draft bill related to international judicial and legal assistance in criminal matters, with the aim of creating a better environment and legal system for startup investment and corporate governance, as well as for mutual judicial assistance with foreign countries, Lai added.

The report is set to be published in Chinese and English later this month, and will be distributed to international experts and representatives from non-government organizations for review, who will then be invited to Taiwan in August to give their review conclusions and opinions, according to Lai.

He expressed hope that the review report, to be issued in August, will show the world Taiwan's endeavors and determination in anti-corruption work.
