Publish time:2015-05-21

As part of the continued promotion of the importance of business ethics and sustainable management to TWSE-listed companies, the Taiwan Stock Exchange (TWSE) and National Chengchi University (NCCU) are co-organizing the “Business Ethics Leadership Forum for TWSE-Listed Companies” at the Taipei International Convention Center on May 27. The TWSE and NCCU have invited Morris Chang, Gary Tseng, and Chang-Ken Lee, amongst other important figures to discuss topics related to business ethics and corporate social responsibility (CSR). The lecturers will also be illustrating how the board of directors can, together with management, implement business ethics and management with integrity through top-down leadership. This can lead companies in progressive commitments to social responsibility. The forum has also invited Ming-chung Tseng, the chairperson of the Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC) and former Vice President, Vincent Siew, to give speeches. Edward H. Chow, the president of NCCU, and Michael Lin, the president of TWSE, will also be in attendance to converse with the business leaders.

The first discourse with business leaders will be led by NCCU President Edward H. Chow and TSMC Chairman Morris Chang, , both of whom will lead discourse on “Boards of Directors and Managers.” TSMC is the biggest company in specialized IC manufacturing services. With a robust board of directors structure in place, TSMC’s number of independent directors is also over half of their total number of the board members. TSMC is indeed an exemplary enterprise. Furthermore, starting from 2012, TSMC has added CSR to the board of directors’ formal agenda and has authorized its management team to execute CSR related topics. In this discourse, Mr. Chang will share his experiences in board and management operations for the reference of the attending directors and supervisors.

The second discourse with business leaders will be led by Michael Lin, the president of TWSE, Gary Tseng, the chairman of E.Sun Bank, and Chang-Ken Lee, the president of Cathay Financial Holdings, all of whom will lead the discourse on “Business Ethics and Corporate Social Responsibility.” E.Sun Bank harbors the spirit of honesty and integrity. With its core value, E.Sun Bank uses its professional team to earn the long-lasting trust of its customers. In 2015, Cathay United Bank became the first and only bank in Taiwan to sign the Equator Principles, fully implementing and exerting the positive influence of financial industry. Thus, the discourse topic focuses on how companies can deepen governance, put emphasis on corporate culture management and business ethics, establish due ethics and values of financial professionals, and make a commitment to protecting the rights of shareholders and stakeholders.

The TWSE has long been offering guidance to TWSE-listed companies in the implementation of corporate governance and CSR. Since the authorities launched the Corporate Governance Roadmap 2013, TWSE has been committed to promoting policies including conducting corporate governance evaluations, mandating preparation of CSR reports, promoting electronic voting, making amendments to relevant corporate governance and CSR regulations, guiding companies to improve corporate governance, and strengthening business performance. Through discourse with leaders, this forum will enable participants to gain a clear understanding of the importance that good governance, business ethics, and CSR have on TWSE-listed companies. Serving as a benchmark company for the reference of attendees, this forum serves to enhance the quality and scale of Taiwan’s capital market. TWSE-listed companies are welcome to register for participation in the forum.
