The “Net Zero Sustainability Talent Training Class” Is Launched to Cultivate Sustainability Talents for Enterprises

Publish time:2023-08-17

With the impact of global climate change on the world, various countries have begun to pay attention to sustainable development of the environment and society. In 2020, the Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC) launched the “Corporate Governance 3.0 - Sustainable Development Roadmap” to construct a sustainable environment in five major aspects, making all TWSE and TPEx-listed companies aware of the importance of sustainable governance. In order to assist domestic enterprises in setting carbon reduction targets as soon as possible and complying with the government policy of achieving net zero carbon emission in 2050, the FSC further promoted the “Sustainable Development Roadmap for TWSE and TPEx-Listed Companies” in March 2022 and released the “Action Plan for Sustainable Development of TWSE and TPEx-Listed Companies” in March 2023 which will be implemented in stages based on the company’s size and the industry’s characteristics, in order to promote the sustainable transformation of Taiwan’s capital market by connecting the supply chain of TWSE and TPEx-listed companies and comply with international standards.

Facing the challenge of global climate change, Taiwan’s public and private sectors have grasped the development trend of “carbon governance” and actively and effectively promoted strategic actions from carbon inventory to a complete system of net zero carbon emission. This not only enhances the symbiotic benefits of enterprises and the society, but also creates a higher quality and unique value network to shape Taiwan as a new model of global sustainable governance. TWSE actively integrates resources from various sectors for cultivation of ESG talents to enhance the competitiveness of Taiwanese enterprises and the Taiwan Carbon Solution Exchange just held its business launch ceremony on August 7, with carbon consulting, education and advocacy as its main businesses to incorporate the concept of sustainable governance into education, in order to deepen and implement it in corporate governance, operations and management activities and thereby affect all supply chain members and form a comprehensive and sustainable network.

In view of this, TWSE and the Taiwan Carbon Solution Exchange have specially entrusted the Taiwan Corporate Governance Association to collaborate with the National Taipei University of Technology, Chung Hsing University and National Cheng Kung University to jointly launch a series of “Net Zero Sustainability Talent Training Classes” in north, central and south Taiwan. The first training class was held on August 17 at the Chang Yung-Fa Foundation, with 80 representatives from listed companies and dozens of school faculty members gathering together to actively learn the importance of net zero sustainability as well as advanced global practices, carbon emissions and the carbon rights trading mechanism, new trends in sustainable corporate governance and how the board of directors formulates ESG sustainable governance strategies. Training classes will then be held in Taichung and Tainan in September and October, respectively, to connect private units and schools to invest in sustainable development and cultivate talents to assist enterprises in achieving the sustainable development goals of government and private units, in the expectation that ESG will become a niche for Taiwanese companies in international competitions.
