Cultivating Carbon Management Talent to Drive Net-Zero Emissions: First Chapter in Hsinchu Successfully Achieved

Publish time:2023-12-06

In order to achieve the national net zero emission target by 2050 and strengthen the talent capacity of the carbon market, the TWSE has jointly planned a series of net zero sustainability courses and forums with the Taiwan Carbon Solution Exchange and major universities in northern, central, and southern Taiwan. The TWSE collaborates with National Tsing Hua University to organize a series of activities on “Net Zero Emission Carbon Credit Management and Carbon Trading Talent Cultivation Training, and the first seminar on “Carbon Reduction and Carbon Management Strategies from the Perspective of CBAM” was held on December 6. A total of 191 people participated in the event, and the feedback was very positive. The seminar kicked off the series of activities, and at the same time serves as a step forward to cultivate professional talents in carbon credit management and carbon credit trading for enterprises.

The TWSE stated that 2050 net zero emission is a transformation process that spans across eras, fields and national borders, and an emerging field that requires more talent investment and promotion. Therefore, the TWSE proposed in 2022 the “ESG ecosystem” which combines the resources and capabilities of peripheral units and various sectors to provide more active net-zero governance strategies for enterprises, with the expectation to bring economic effects and carbon reduction incentives to enterprises, promote the development of related talents, and promote a green circular economy through eight specific action plans.

This includes the establishment of an integrated ESG information platform, promotion of ESG evaluation, rise of diversified ESG commodity development, sustainable development transformation for enterprises, assistance to enterprises in carbon inventory and disclosure, establishment of a carbon credit trading platform, cultivation of talents, and strengthening of investor relations.

Nyan-Hwa Tai, Senior Vice President of National Tsing Hua University, stated that net zero emission is a key development project for the industry, academia and research institutions. After Taiwan’s government announced on World Earth Day on April 22, 2021 that the country will move towards the goal of net zero emission by 2050, how to reduce carbon emissions has become a common goal for all sectors. Sustainable environmental development includes at least the three aspects of laws and regulations, management and technology. The focus of this talent training program is to strengthen the management level in sustainable environmental development; therefore, assisting enterprises in integrating corporate governance and net zero emission strategies, and carrying out carbon credit management and improving the carbon trading system are the key points of this training program.

After this seminar, the TWSE will jointly organize 12 training workshops with the Taiwan Carbon Solution Exchange and National Tsing Hua University next year (2024) to introduce the three main themes of “reduction and reconciliation,” “negative carbon technology” and “carbon credit trading, and the event information will be announced on the official website of the Taiwan Carbon Solution Exchange. The goal is that feasible low-carbon transformation paths and related strategies can be specifically explored in the wave of net zero emission, and thus giving a comprehensive understanding of carbon management and carbon credit trading.
