Responding to the call of “Healthy Taiwan Promotion Committee” and aligning with international health and Sustainable Development Goals

Publish time:2025-04-18

While facing challenges in the global post-pandemic era, the Office of the President established the “Healthy Taiwan Promotion Committee” in June 2024 to promote healthy living for all citizens, improve healthcare for all ages, align with international health and sustainable development goals, and realize the policy vision of “Healthy Taiwan.” The President serves as the convener and invites the representatives of government agencies, scholars, and experts in the medical field to hold meetings at the Presidential Office on a quarterly basis; it is to service as a communication platform for formulating and promoting “Healthy Taiwan” policies.

The “Healthy Taiwan Promotion Committee” assumes the three missions of being a social participation platform, a social communication bridge, and a policy effectiveness engine. It takes advantage of the power of industry, government, academia, research, and the private sector to gather feedback and engage in communications being consensus-focused. Three committee meetings have been held so far since its establishment. The Committee has promoted collaboration between the public and private sectors, is committed to implementing diverse and concrete actions plus strategies to improve public health. This is done together with enhancing international cooperation to establish global care in the post-pandemic era through discussions along with communications on subjects ranging from “Healthy Taiwan Vision Planning” to “Chronic Disease Prevention and Control: Healthy Lifestyle Development, Obesity Prevention and Control, and the 888 Plan for the Prevention and Control of the Three Highs (high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and high blood sugar).”

The TWSE states that in order to actively respond to the vision of “Healthy Taiwan” and to urge companies to value the importance of employees’ health and welfare, certain conditions meet the requirements of Corporate Governance Evaluation (CGE). If TWSE/TPEx Listed Companies have specific measures and implementation results related to employee health, such as preventing and treating obesity together with the three highs, plus have them disclosed on the company website and annual report of the shareholders’ meeting, then they fall in the scope of employee health. This is as stated in Requirement 1 “List employee welfare matters” of the CGE indicator 4.9 “Are various employee welfare measures, retirement systems, and their implementations disclosed in the company’s website and annual report?” or Requirement 1 “Specifically explain the protection measures for the personal safety and health of employees, the work environment, and their implementations” of indicator 4.10 “Are the protection measures for the personal safety of employees, work environment, and their implementations disclosed in the company’s website and annual report?”. If the company meets the scoring requirements listed for each individual indicator, it can receive credit in that category.
